Geocaching Updates are Live!

I know there are a lot of people out there waiting for this so I’m happy to announce that two of our geocaching updates are available!

DeLorme’s Send to GPS plug-in is available at www.Geocaching.com, just visit their site and click on the Send to GPS button to transfer your geocache to the Earthmate PN-40 or PN-20. Note that the first time you try this you will be sent to our site to download the plug-in… just follow the setup instructions and soon you’ll be seeing a screen like the one below!

Send to GPS

We’ve also released a public beta version of our firmware update for the PN-40… please go to the following link to download this update.

http://forum.delorme.com/viewtopic.php?t=17506

You’ll find instructions for updating your device as well as a list of all the improvements we’ve included.

New with this release… a Mac version of the firmware package! We’re very pleased to have a geocaching solution for all those Mac users out there that have been asking for support.

Mac Firmware Update

Our team is now focusing on the Cache Register widget for the Mac and PC. We’ve been working closely with Groundspeak on this and will be posting more information about this effort on our forums.

Thank you all for your patience while these projects were in development, I’m sure that you will all find it was worth the wait!

Installing the new firmware now! Thanks guys, good work!

  3. Chris says:

AWESOME news. I found out about the geocaching.com Delorme support Friday morning. Couldn’t be more excited about the public beta of the new firmware! Now … if only I hadn’t left my connection cable at work. I might just have to run down and grab it–80 miles round trip notwithstanding.

    Great work, team Delorme!

If you are like me, and you are surprised when you can’t find the download links after clicking on the DeLorme forum link, you have to log in to the forums in order to see those links. If you do not have a DeLorme forum account, I believe you will need to create one.

  5. Send to GPS is very handy — so glad you were able to implement the feature.

I think I found a bug in the Geocaching firmware feature. I’ll post info in the forums once I figure out the steps to repro.

  6. Ben says:

Great work! The 40 just keeps on getting better and better.

  7. Dave McCormick says:

Thanks guys! The plug-in is working well. Had a great time using the 40 for geocaching yesterday. I walked right up to the cache hanging in a tree. It was awesome.

Can’t wait to see the cache register widget.

What priority does the PN-20 firmware update have? Very little, if any, has been mentioned about it in recent weeks.

  9. Audra says:

Love the new “Send to GPS” feature. It was a quick and easy download and it synced to my PN-20 with no trouble. That is a lot faster than opening TopoUSA, downloading the gpx or loc file into the program, and then uploading it to the GPS. All of the the important features are shown in the Comment section of the cache waypoint too!Thank you for all your hard work! Now I’ll do my part by using the GPS to go find these caches!

  10. Ej Martin says:

AWESOME, simply AWESOME. Now we just need the firmware update for us PN-20 owners!

  11. TimH says:

This is wonderful for my PN-20. A great GPS and great support here. This is one reason I chose it over Garmin. I did some caching this past weekend and the download feature is genius. Kudos guys.

  12. Charley Reed says:

I am into hiking in deep woods, I have used a Garmin-72 for years because of the
track back. never got lost. Then i saved for months to purchase the PN-40 so I would have better terrain maps. It has nothing but topo 7’0 the other maps will (NOT) download. I read about geocaching so i took the PN-40 along with my trusty Garmin-72 the PN-40 was always off the cache about 50 feet. When i turned on the Garmin 72
on and got to the coords I was always standing on the cache. I along with my Son and Daughter have tried everything the Tech’s have suggested. still don’t work. A $435.00 closet ornament….

I have the Earthmate GPS LT-20 I never hear much about this outstanding device I have an Acer Aspire one netbook I take with me when on the road it is a valuable tool. When are we going to get some attention focused on this device

  14. Will says:

Can this OS X firmware updater for the PN-40 somehow be repurposed to work with a PN-20?

  15. Robert Atkinson says:

MY PN-40 has been working great. I updated to explorer 8 and now when I send to gps I can only load 1 geocache and when I load the next cache it replaces the first one. I reloaded firmware and send geocache to gps software. No memory problem, less than 100 caches still in gps from earlier.

  16. Mike Gamble says:

I love the new “cache register” and have already used it to load a PQ onto my PN-40. Unfortunately, when I changed locations, I told the cache register to empty all the remaining caches from the PN-40, which it did. But now I can’t get either the cache register, or Topo8 to load anything into the PN-40. I tried the “Send to GPS” on geocaching.com, but when it tries to load the cache it comes up with a “waypoint indexing problem” notice?

  17. Dave says:

I did everything you said to get the “send to GPS” to work, and of course it doesn’t. Arrrrggggg……

  18. Andrew says:

The “Send to GPS” feature is great!

  19. Jim Becker says:

My old trustworthy computer crashed and I have to re-install the DeLorme plug-in on my new computer. Following your instructions above, I tried to send a geocache to my PN-40 but got this error message, “500-Internal server error. There is a problem with the reso9urce you are looking for and it cannot be displayed”.

Please advise how I can get the plug-in setup.
    Jim

  20. Nick says:

I understand there is a firmware 2.7. If I do only geocaching, should I install it?
